my last night with you

TCXT2565

We larked and laughed,
looking into our eyes.
Had I known it was
my last night with you,
I would have played our song
all night long.

Pleaded or prayed,
you placed trust in me.
Had I known it was
my last night with you,
I would’ve held you as though
not letting go.

Ignorant and inept,
I survived in denial.
Inasmuch as it was
my last night with you,
it remains and recites to me
a ME•MO•RY.

  1. Really beautiful poem — thank you. (And on the subject of last times with people we love, I think you must always keep in mind that any parting could very well be the last one you will have. I never let my husband leave the house without a good-bye kiss. You never know.)
