when the earth shakes

My family has been feeling restless for the last couple of days. The earth underneath them has been shaking night and day.

It is frustrating to live far from your family when a disaster happens near them. You can’t get to them quick enough even if you want to. Until you hear their voice on the phone, you worry. Since I live alone, I worry alone. And, that is not a good thing.

I saw the images of the destruction and felt my heart heavy.
My family lives far enough from the center, and none of them has been hurt so far. I am thankful for that and hoping they remain okay.
People’s lives changed and towns destroyed. I think of those who are hurt and lost and realize that I have to stay strong to be there for them.

Having lived in California for more than 20 years while I was growing up, I know how distressing it can be and how powerless you feel during an earthquake and its aftermath. I also know, from having family who live far away and are in critical situations, how distressing it can be and powerless you feel wondering how they are managing. My heart and prayers are with you.

  6. I am so sorry! It must be terribly frightening and stressful. I’m glad that they are okay. Hope they are far enough away from Kyushu to escape the worst of it.
