They got divorced right around the time I lost my husband. Our circumstances were slightly different – I referred to my late husband and them to their ex-husbands, and I couldn’t even ask a simple question to mine whereas they had to keep in communication with theirs to discuss legal issues. We, however, were all trying to establish “me” after living “us” for years and felt the camaraderie.

Five years later, they are enjoying their lives with their new partners. They sound and look content, happy.

Me? I’m still at the same place where they left me, somewhat comfortable being alone.

My apologies. It is not fiction, though written for Friday Fictioneers – 30 June 2017.

  1. My condolences. My Dad died last April and my Mom, now 85 is alone for the first time since age 20. She’s trying to keep busy, but it’s difficult. She misses Dad a lot.
