death and a girl

I have been watching her for a while now.

I watch and follow her, while she ponders, talks, reads, and writes.

I don’t want her to see me. I’m afraid she wouldn’t like me. I would scare her, upset her.

She is so sensitive and delicate. Captivating, indeed.

I wish I could just keep watching her from afar.

Time is running out, however, and I need to tell her.

“Hi. There you are,” she looks me in the eye.

“You knew?”

“I’ve been expecting you.”

“Is it time?”

“Yes…I’m afraid it is.”

“Is it scary as they say?”

“It can be beautiful.”

A smile flickers across her face, and she reaches for me.

I take her tiny hand.

Hi Nelkumi, your post reminds me of a painting of death and the maiden in Charlotte Salomon’s moving Life? Or Theatre?, perhaps you know it? It’s currently on display here in Amsterdam, maybe you like it?
