a package deal

I knew it was coming, but this soon? TV, SNS, and the papers are talking about the alarming discovery.

What do I do now? I take the box out of the closet, carefully open, and remove the contents. Keys, a towel, a knife. All familiar. A pang in my chest.

At the bottom, I find the answer. It has always been there, in the package—a passport with my new name.

    1. LOL. I was thinking something totally different about the towel, ie. evidence. Great story. I love the ending. Hope this person escapes and not to a Vogon ship – unless that’s what they deserve. Hm…

  1. It’s a story that has impact in part because of its brevity. In addition to the pandemic, there was a near-miss asteroid (so to speak) recently and a signal from space that repeats as only artificial signals are supposed to. Who knows what might cause us to check through what we have?

    Great work!
