I don’t know if there is such a thing as a “commonly accepted truth” anymore. There are so many of us on this planet and so much information available that I often get confused about what is true. I suppose that some people choose to believe in statements from one source, and then, they have accepted principles in common.
I am also dubious about some old sayings, conventional wisdom:
“Life is short.”
Really? It seems long enough to me.
“Money can’t buy happiness.”
Hmmm … money can buy many things that make me happy, though.
“No pain. No gain.”
More than likely, “Pain. No gain.” If you don’t eat what you want to eat, you won’t gain weight.
“Everything in moderation.”
If you don’t bet big, you’ll never win big either.
“Health is better than wealth.”
But if you get sick or injured, wealth can get you the best medicine and health plan.
“Out of sight, out of mind.”
Your heart, however, knows.
One saying that I think it’s true:
“Past performance is no guarantee of future result.”
Karma is overrated.
In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Doubters Alert.”
“What commonly accepted truth (or “truth”) do you think is wrong, or at least seriously doubt? Why?”
I liked the ones about money and health.

I don’t think you brought up a mention of love like ‘The circle of love can never be broken’ or ‘true love is everlasting’. I thought your presentation of old sayings was wonderful. I hadn’t heard many of them in a very long time and I really enjoyed reading them. Great job.

“You only live once.” Somehow I cannot make myself agree with this one. You only die once but you live every each day, every passing moment, every breath you take… I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me 😦
