That looks like something we see in the northeastern part of North America (maybe elsewhere also). Fiddlehead ferns are green but look very much the same. A lot of people like to gather those and cook them. Apparently they taste a bit like asparagus.

Have only seen the green ones as Todd mentioned. Yes, they are edible and I find them quite tasty – MZ. Sublime photo.
